Traditional trade village at Hoai Nhon District, Binh Dinh Province
17:26', 25/1/ 2007 (GMT+7)

It is Hoai Nhon that sees the most crowded presence of trade villages among localities in Binh Dinh Province. Coconut-flavour girdle cake making, sedge mat weaving, vermicelli making, etc. are commonly found there. Binh Dinh Online would like to introduce some pictures about typical trades in the locality.

“Does anybody dare to waste his effort into irrigation of vast coconut fields in Tam Quan Town (Hoai Nhon District)? ”. This Vietnamese folk verse implies that Tam Quan is land of coconut palms. A lot of home products are made from coconut palms and coconut-flavour girdle cake is considered a specialty of the locality.

After being spread into thin round layer, girdle cakes are exposed under the sun to dry.

Members of Ngoc An Agricultural Cooperative are trimming the girdle cakes before packing.

In spite of many ups and downs, coconut matting industry has been on firm market standing thanks to its continuous update on designs and patterns.

A country girl is going to finish final step of trimming the coconut matting.

Sedge mat making helps villagers to make the most of their leisure time after harvest time to increase their earnings. This couples have been working in this hereditary industry for tens of years. Each day, they can make a couple of sedge mats and earn VND 40,000-50,000 worth of net income.

The wife is weaving the mat while the husband is feeding sedge material into the machine.
