Hue is famous for non bai tho, a kind of conical hat crafted with poems weaved into the design and viewed when held up to the light. Binh Dinh is also well-known for non ngua Phu Gia (Phu Gia conical hat).

It is called like that because the conical hat is made in Phu Gia hamlet, Cat Tuong commune of Binh Dinh province and the rich often wore such a conical hat when he was riding a horse.

Craftsmen often gather together to create a relaxed atmosphere when making conical hats.

They have to not only stay up late but get up early to buy raw materials at a market opening from 4 am to 6 am.

The 76-year-old craftsman Dang Van Tam makes frames and embroiders conical hats with lace.

The frame of a conical hat is made from a dang tree, a kind of tree growing in primeval forests, and embroidered with lace very carefully. It often takes two days for a craftsman to make a frame.
