In the middle of September 2006, I accidently met Director of 473 Transportation Construction Co. in Ha Noi. “We are building a bridge crossing Thi Nai Lagoon in Binh Dinh Province. Let’s go to see by your correspondent’s eyes!” said the Director. In the middle of November 2006, I saw/ a brief news “Inauguration of Thi Nai Bridge to be on 12th December 2006”. Remembering to the director’s words, I departed to Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province without hesitation.

I came to the bridge construction site immediately after the flight from Ha Noi. Sunlight was brilliant every where. Here and there, at the head of bridges leading to Thi Nai Bridge, all of the workers were working hard. Some were busy with tarring while other team were installing street lamps. How immense was Thi Nai Lagoon! How verdant was the mangrove forest!
Building of the Thi Nai Lagoon is part of Quy Nhon - Nhon Hoi Civil Bridge Road Construction Project. Total length of the bridge is 2.477,3 km. Building of the over sea bridge is the first pioneer step to prepare for development of Nhon Hoi Industrial Zone and to expand municipal land of Quy Nhon City as well.
I met Mr. Ho Si Hoa, leader of Team 3, 473 Transportation Construction Co on the bridge. “This has been the longest over sea bridge in Vietnam so far. Look! It is so imposing and picturesque. How tough we are to build it!” said Hoa. According to him, Thi Nai Lagoon was actually a gulf. It was strongly influenced by large amplitude tides. The workers faced a lot of difficulties to construct the bridge but they all overcame the obstacles with their tough sprit. And now, a grandiose and magnificent over sea bridge is going to be finised.
Saying goodbye to Ho Si Hoa, I returned On-site Steering Committee of 473 Transportation Construction Co. to meet Mr. Nguyen Le Minh, Vice-Director of the company cum Technical Vice-Director of the project. The 32-year-old representative of 7X generation told me more about effort of the company. In order to meet construction schedule of two components in severely hard situation, 473 Transportation Construction Co. assigned two Vice-Directors and 300 workers dividing into 4 teams, 2 big groups. They came to the construction site from 2 directions: one from Vinh City, the other from Phu Yen Province. Big amount of construction materials and equipments were transported to the construction site: 4 concrete-mixers with 45-60 m3/h capacity, 12 bargers, 10 cranes with 16-50 ton capacity, 7 gadders, 500 metres of temporary bridge, 8 trucks to transport concrete with 85m3/h capacity. “I started to work on this construction site in October 2003. In December of the same year, I came back my hometown Vinh City, my hometown, to get married. Staying with my wife for 18 days, I had to return Quy Nhon City. I have been living alone for 3 years so far” confided Minh. So do the other workers of 473 Transportation Construction Co. They have to put aside their own personal affairs such as young children, old parents to build the bridge.
Minh said to me that Binh Dinh Province would organize the inauguration of the bridge on 12th December. This construction work is obvious evidence of the company’s progress. Once again, engineers and workers of 473 Transportation Construction Co. “grow up” more.
In the near future, on Phuong Mai Peninsula, Nhon Hoi Industrial Zone is going to be established. New image of Binh Dinh Province in industrialisation-modernization stage has been formed. It is the workers who has great contribution to such development.
