Q: What is your opinion about results of Binh Dinh's industrial production in 2007?

A: Despite difficulties owing to the ever-increasing price, enterprises have actively found ways to promote their business, focusing on the quality improvement and market expansion. The processing industry sector accounted for 93 percent with the industrial production value recording at VND4,483 billion, a rise of 33.3 percent over 2006.

At present, Binh Dinh's industrial products have been consumed in 50 countries and territories worldwide. The 2007's export turnover reached US$267 million, an increase of 24.2 percent over 2006.

It could be concluded that the industry sector has prospered in 2007.

Q: Are there still shortcomings?

A: That’s right! The industrial production is unstable, such as the lack of raw material for processing industry sector, slow progress in building the infrastructure of industrial parks and ground clearance, badly affecting the industry development, and unwanted environmental issues.

Also, some enterprises haven’t kept up with changes of domestic and foreign markets. Most haven't applied advanced technologies, lowering the competitiveness. Some industries like electricity, electronics, and clean industries haven’t remarkably developed, which needs more concerns.

Q: What needs to be done to overcome shortcomings for the sustainable development?

A: It's necessary to have the cooperation from functional bodies and agencies. The planning of industry sector and industrial parks will be promoted in the coming time. Processing industries of forest products, aquatic products, and minerals are expected to develop quickly.

Binh Dinh registered an industrial production value of VND4,826 billion, an increase of 30 percent over 2006. State owned enterprises were up 29.7 percent, private sector surged by 29.1 percent, and foreign-invested sector contributed 99.6 percent. The 2008's industrial production value is expected to record at VND6,030 billion, a rise of 25 percent over 2007.

We also plan to aid enterprises in solving difficulties to develop their business, fulfilling requirements. The restoration of trade villages and human resource development will also be supported.

The cooperation with other provinces and domestic and foreign enterprises will be intensified to develop Binh Dinh's industry.

To have a sustainable development, in my opinion, each enterprise needs to make every effort. They must apply advanced technologies in production and improve the management and skills for workers to enhance the competitiveness.

More importantly, enterprises need to further the trade promotion to penetrate new and potential markets.
