Fish sauce making has been a long-lasting traditional job of Binh Dinh coastal residents. Fish sauce made in Binh Dinh has commonly won favour and high appreciation of customers because of its unique qualities such as its yellowish liquid, its subtle scent and its sweetish flavour of anchovies.
Fame and quality of the fish sauce made in Binh Dinh have been proved by strong development of the fish sauce making businesses in the province, particularly those at An Nhon District, in the recent years. At time being, many of them are expanding their production.
An Nhon local government planned to build 2 fish sauce making collective complexes of Thanh Liem (also known as Nhon An) and Nhon Phong to create favourable condition for the expansion. Some of the fish sauce making businesses built their factories there and are now under smooth operation.

In order to regulate the development of the fish sauce businesses, in early 2005, aquiculture agencies of Binh Dinh founded Binh Dinh Fish Sauce Association, attracting 23 large-sized business members.
The association has called a lot of the local fish sauce making businesses to discuss on problem solving and effective promotion of the brand names.
The businesses have taken advantage of their association membership to bring law suits against misconduct of other individuals and enterprises who produce counterfeit fish sauce under the famous brand names.
The association is preparing to make up a common brand name-Binh Dinh fish sauce- for all of the fish sauce products made in Binh Dinh. Besides the common brand name, each of the business still keeps its own brand name like fish sauce making enterprises in Phu Quoc Island.
The association expects to finish its registration and building up the common brand name in 2007. Those who want to use the common brand name of “Binh Dinh fish sauce” must conform themselves to quality and design criteria set by the association. If they violate the disciplines, they will sacked from the association and will get sanctions by authorized bodies.
Such initiative will help Binh Dinh fish sauce making industry reach steady and sustainable development in the near future.
