In recent years, the passenger transportation in Binh Dinh has strongly developed. However, the infrastructure, especially coach stations, hasn’t met its development. To synchronously develop the passenger transportation, Binh Dinh province People’s Committee has promulgated the decision on the re-establishment of coach stations in Binh Dinh.

* For objective requirements

Many routes in Binh Dinh have been built and upgraded for the economic development and transportation, including 14 provincial routes with the total length of 457 kilometers. They connect Binh Dinh’s districts with national routes No.1A, 1D and 19, running through Binh Dinh. With such a traffic system, the passenger transportation in Binh Dinh can meet the people’s demand in traveling.

There are now more than 1,100 coaches and three inter-provincial coach stations, consisting of the Quy Nhon center coach station, Phu Cat coach station, and Bong Son coach station,  in Binh Dinh. Thanks to the improvement of the infrastructure and services, these stations have been attracting more and more coaches. Currently, the number of coaches leaving and arriving at the stations can satisfy the people’s need in traveling, contributing to the order in the passenger transportation.

However, because there is no coach station in other districts in Binh Dinh, the activities of the passenger transportation in these places are still in disorder, resulting in the traffic jam and environmental pollution.

* For future development

Binh Dinh province People’s Committee decided to re-establish the coach station system in the whole province. Under the project, there will be 20 coach stations in Binh Dinh by 2020. Alongside this, other services will also be developed in the projected area of coach station. The total capital for the construction of coach station system is nearly VND97.5 bln (US$6 mln) in which the State budget is VND14.5 bln and the rest will be collected from other sources.

By the year 2010, ten coach stations will have been built in following districts: An Lao, Hoai An, Vinh Thanh, Van Canh, Tam Quan (Hoai Nhon district), Binh Duong, Phu My town (Phy My district), Dap Da, Binh Dinh (An Nhon) and Cat Tien (Phu Cat) with the capital of VND50 bln (roughly $3 mln). In the post-2010 phase, the Bong Son coach station will be upgraded and other coach stations will be newly built in Phu Phong, Tay Binh (Tay Son district), Phu Tai, South Nhon Hoi (Quy Nhon city), An Luong (Phu My district), Cho Gom and Cat Khanh (Phu Cat). The chosen places for the construction of coach stations were based on the direction for Binh Dinh’s transportation development to 2020, according to Mr. Nguyen Ha Dong, vice director of Binh Dinh Transportation Department.

It is forecasted that the number of passengers in Binh Dinh will record nearly 20 million turns per year by 2010 and over 25 million in 2020. It can be said that the establishment of coach stations in Binh Dinh is suitable to the pace of social-economic development and the people’s demand in traveling.
