Permanent Vice-Chairman of Binh Dinh province People’s Committee, Nguyen Van Thien, on August 7 held a meeting with the delegation of the embassy of Belgium in Vietnam, representatives of the Government Office and the Ministry of Planning and Investment. Representatives of provincial relevant bodies and agencies also attended the meeting.
Vice-Chairman Thien briefed on the Binh Dinh’s social-economic situation, particularly demands for the clean water, irrigation and environment sanitation in rural areas. He, then, suggested three projects that need the aid from the Belgium Government, that is, the project for the solid waste treatment in Hoai Nhon, Tay Son, Phu My, and An Nhon district, the project for providing clean water in Cat Thang, Cat Chanh, Cat Tien (Phu Cat district), and Phuoc Thang (Tuy Phuoc district) communes, and the project for upgrading Hoc Mon irrigational lake (Phu My district) with the total capital of nearly VND120 billion (US$7.5 million).
Three suggested projects were very appropriate for sponsorship directions in 2008 within the framework of the cooperation programme in 2007-2010 period, approved by two Governments in the fifth session of the Vietnam-Belgium Cooperation Joint Committee held on Mar. 8-9 in Brussels, said Mr. Patrict De Bouck, head of the development cooperation programme of the Embassy of Belgium. The delegation of the Embassy of Belgium would work with the Ministry of Planning and Investment to decide the sponsorship for projects, he added.
