Binh Dinh has reasonably explored the potential in the maritime economy and coastal area, promoting the social-economic development. Binh Dinh provincial Committee of the Party has recently promulgated the Action plan on Vietnamese maritime strategy by 2020 in order for Binh Dinh to become a strong maritime province, hastening the industrialization and modernization.

* To explore the potential in the maritime economy and coastal areas
Coastal and sea areas play an important role in Binh Dinh’s social-economic development as well as the strategic development of central region and Central Highlands. They are an important gateway to the southern central region, connecting to Laos, the East-North of Cambodia, and Thailand. Recently, Nhon Hoi Economic Zone has created a breakthrough in Binh Dinh’s strategy for the economic development and the key economic zone for central region.
There are many minerals at coastal areas in Binh Dinh, such as: granite, mineral sand, mineral water in Hoi Van, Chanh Thang (Phu Cat district), Long My (Quy Nhon city), and swallow’s nest. Also, De Gi and Thi Nai lagoons are connected with sea, creating favourable conditions for the development of the seaport system. Many landscapes and vestiges can be used to develop the tourism.
The economy of coastal areas accounted for 63.36 % of the provincial gross product. The industrial production, trade, and services have rather developed. Particularly, the number of goods transported via ports has been increasing in the past 10 years with the average surge of 21.3 % per year and the export turnover was 98%, an increase of 19.2 % per year. The infrastructures in coastal areas, such as traffic, electricity, water supply, post, and telecommunication have been considerably upgraded, better meeting demands for the social-economic development.
However, the maritime economy and coastal areas in Binh Dinh are now inadequate to its potential and advantages. There is not a close combination between the agricultural production and aquatic products; moreover, advances in science and technologies haven’t been quickly applied. On the other hand, the environmental protection and disaster prevention aren’t paid attention to.

* To create the impetus for the sustainable development
Basing on the development target of the maritime economy by 2020 and advantages, Binh Dinh will give priority to develop the basic economy in the sea and coastal areas, including the promotion of constructing the infrastructures in Nhon Hoi Economic Zone to attract the investment, the expansion of industrial zones, the development of seaports, such as Quy Nhon, De Gi, Tam Quan, and Thi Nai to intensify the industrial development and improve the living standard, and the upgrade of the coastal urban with Quy Nhon city playing the role as a centre and gateway for developing the East-West corridor.
The communication infrastructure with modern technologies in the coastal areas and island will be intensely constructed together with the upgrade of the coastal traffic system; besides, Binh Dinh province People’s Committee will petition the Government to soon approve the construction of Quy Nhon-Quang Ngai-Nha Trang highway. The tourism will be strongly developed by investing tourism services with distinctive features and restoring historical and cultural vestiges.
Policies on the capital and human resource development will be also of great concern. The training of highly-qualified labor forces to meet the demands will be given the top priority.
