Two FDI enterprises in Binh Dinh, including Quy Nhon Afforestation Co., Ltd and Binh Dinh-Malaysia (Bimal) Minerals Joint Stock Company were granted Gold Dragon Award in 2007. Ngoc Phuong had a talk with director of Bimal Company, Huynh Ngoc Chau.

Q: Could you briefly introduce the Gold Dragon Award granted to Bimal?

A: Gold Dragon Award is an annual award held by the Ministry of Planning and Investment and Sai Gon Economic Times to honor FDI enterprises for their contributions to Vietnam's economy.

Bimal company won the Gold Dragon Award for the first time after 12 years of establishment.

Q: What is your opinion when it is said that we should bravely refuse FDI projects causing the natural resources degradation and environment pollution?

A: Bimal is a joint venture set up in 1995. We sought new markets for export, creating the capital for its operation, applying advanced technologies for the development.

FDI projects have, therefore, many benefits. We can take advantage of foreign capital to create jobs, new products, and services. Also, advanced technologies will also be applied in Vietnam thanks to the cooperation with foreign partners. Such advantages will increase the local budget.

The foreign investment attraction is, thus, necessary for the economic development.

We should only, however, refuse projects badly affecting the environment because we must ensure the sustainable development for our environment.

Q: What has Bimal done for such as sustainable development?

A: Bimal's operation is directly related to the environment for its activities in titanium exploration. We, therefore, pay special attention to the environment restoration. The afforestation was carried out after exploring.

Q: What did Bimal plan to fulfil Government's requirements for the minerals exploring, processing, and exporting?

A: We have 10 year-experiences. The exploration and export of raw ore won't bring high value products. Bimal will focus on producing high quality products in the coming time. Particularly, we plan to process Ilmenit ore and produce titanium slag in 2008.

Q: What do you expect for Binh Dinh's economic development in the New Year?

A: With Nhon Hoi Economic Zone, Binh Dinh is expected to attract more foreign investors in 2008, enhancing Binh Dinh's position, particularly in industry and services.
