The project on building Geographic Information System (GIS) map for Binh Dinh tourism carried out by Binh Dinh IT development supporting center (Cedasit) was approved. This is a very useful digital map for tourists visiting Binh Dinh.

The GIS map with Vietnamese and English versions includes all information about Binh Dinh tourism, such as services, destinations (landscapes, vestiges, or craft villages) and other issues.

Each piece of information is showed with different signs on the map. Those who want to visit a site, for example, just click on the sign. They will know then the shortest way to that site.

Also, tourists could find services they want on the map, including shopping areas, hotels, schedules and prices of means of transport.

Internet users can access the map on the website named www.binhdinhtourmap.vn. The information about some craft villages is also provided here, let alone traditional festivals and specialties in Binh Dinh.

Map makers used the global positioning system (GPS) to accurately locate destinations and administrative units. They also cooperated with relevant bodies to provide accurate information for tourists.

The GIS technology has undergone trials early in Vietnam in different fields. In Ha Noi and HCM City, people can find bus routes with the GIS map. The application of GIS technology in tourist map is, however, new in Vietnam.

The GIS map for Binh Dinh tourism is a software package that can be used in tourism sites, hotels, and restaurants. GIS technology helps build map and do geographically analysis. It works better than other manual methods, said Thai Hoang Uan, Cedasit director.

The GIS map for Binh Dinh tourism is expected to create favorable conditions for tourists and investors to find the information about Binh Dinh.

It still, however, has some drawbacks that need fixing, such as the interface or additional information about remarkable sites.

The map will be transferred to Binh Dinh Tourism Promotion Center.
