Farmers explore online for farming production
15:24', 14/11/ 2008 (GMT+7)

The project has brought the Internet and farmers closer together.

The project of supporting farmers to access to the Internet, targeting at the socio-economic development in Binh Dinh’s rural areas has finished its first phase with encouraging results. Notably, most farmers fully supported the project.

Binh Dinh Farmers’ Association has implemented the project in two years, 2008-09, with the help of provincial Department of Information and Communication.

Initially, a website (www.hoinongdanbinhdinh.org.vn) has operated since October. It aims to provide all information for farmers. Also, it also includes other issues such as policies, Q&A section, activities and operation of provincial Farmers’ Association.

In the first phase, 22 training courses have opened, helping farmers become familiar with the Internet. Now they can explore online, open an e-mail address, and share experiences online.

The courses were supported by most farmers. Those who attended these courses expressed their wish to attend advanced courses.

“I bought a computer three years ago but didn’t know how to use. After attending the course, I now know how to use the computer. I will have my computer connected to the Internet to access to useful information in all fields, particularly in farming production,” a member said.

Despite some difficulties, the project has had positive results, bringing the knowledge to farmers, particularly those who live in far and remote areas in Binh Dinh.

“We will continue to implement the second phase next year,” Chairman of provincial Farmers’ Association Nguyen Cong Tanh said. “In 2009, internet clubs for farmers will be set up in Districts. Also, the website will be updated more frequently to meet the farmers’ demand.”

Advanced courses for farmers will be opened, bringing the Internet and farmers closer together to boost farming development, he added.
