The Thi Nai seaport, established before 1975, used to be a military port of the former puppet regime in Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province. According to experts, the port will play an important role during the international integration process of Binh Dinh and the Central Vietnam. Despite being located near such a big seaport as Quy Nhon and having a smaller scale, the Thi Nai seaport’s activities are very effective with more handled cargoes, which increased from 204,000 tonnes in 2002 to 268,000 tonnes in 2003 and 404,000 tonnes in 2004, almost doubling the figure of 2002.
Over the past five years, the Thi Nai seaport has made great efforts to complete its tasks as it has completed and exceeded its year plans. The port’s achievements feature capacity, quality and economic effectiveness, as well as its progress in technology renewal and infrastructure development.
Since 2001, the seaport has invested in modern equipment to improve its competitiveness, contributing to the province’s economic development and promoting the development of import and export activities.
Tran Cong Trieu, director of the Thi Nai seaport, said that the port had taken many measures to renew its activities. As a result, its services have improved.
The port has effectively exploited its new equipment. It has built up its prestige among customers. Cargo handled at the Thi Nai seaport includes cement, titan, and agricultural materials. The port has many traditional customers. Also, the port leaders have focused on attracting more customers with improved customer care services. Accordingly, they often organise meetings with customers to settle difficulties in cargo handling. As a result, the port has received praise from Binh Dinh province, the transport service and customers.
Who will manage the Thi Nai seaport remains a question for Binh Dinh province. As a small seaport with an area of three hectares, the port is suitable only for small-sized ships. It will fit the management of Binh Dinh province. Therefore, the port has developed a VND 52 billion project on developing its infrastructure and handling equipment, increasing the volume of cargoes transported via waterways, thus making a contribution to the development of Binh Dinh province.
