The southern central coastal province of Binh Dinh has great potential for tourism development with its picturesque landscapes, peculiar culture and unique history. In the country's plan for tourism development to 2010, Binh Dinh has a place of importance. In cases where its potential and advantages have been effectively exploited, the province has proven that it is a charming destination for both domestic and foreign visitors.
Naturally endowed with 134km of coastline of unspoiled beauty, the province of Binh Dinh is very proud of its many eye-catching scenic sites and beaches like the Quy Nhon Beach, Ghenh Rang and Quy Hoa. In addition, there are mountains, rivers, lakes and 150,000 ha of natural forest, all of which entice potential domestic and foreign visitors.
A land with a rich and old culture and history, Binh Dinh is the birthplace of that famous national hero, Quang Trung-Nguyen Hue. Also springing from the province were celebrities like Dao Duy Tu, Xuan Dieu, and Han Mac Tu. Binh Dinh is known for its cultural relics which include the Do Ban Citadel, 14 Cham towers with their special architecture, traditional Go Sanh pottery, the Quang Trung Museum and historic sites associated with the Quang Trung Movement. The province has also been recognized for its sporting spirit. Visitors will be delighted by the martial arts and Tay Son war drum performances that are unique to this area.
To turn this potential into an advantage, provincial authorities have made tourism a spearhead economic sector and they will attempt to establish a number of tourist routes. A tourism development plan for 2006-2010 has also been presented and traditional wooden handicrafts, Bau Da liquor and conical hat production will be promoted to attract visitors. A number of other tourist offerings are to be created to attract visitors and several tourist sites are to be upgraded. As part of the plan, the Binh Dinh Museum is to be rebuilt and another Cham Museum is to be built. In the meantime, tourism businesses have been making an effort to present local tourism attractions and they encourage projects and policies for tourism development that could attract visitors and investors.
For example, the Government approved the Nhon Hoi Economic Zone which made Binh Dinh one of five important locations within the central key economic region. Following that, the province was identified as a tourism center of the region and the country. Investors that have registered to invest in the province are the My Tai Company (based in Binh Dinh) which plans to build a tourist resort on18ha on the coast in the Trung Luong area (Cat Tien, Phu Cat), the Tan Phu Thinh Company (based in Ho Chi Minh City) that plans to build the Four Seasons Bay Resort in Tan Thanh hamlet, Vinh Hoi (Cat Hai commune, Phu Cat) on 146 ha and the Sai Gon Quy Nhon Company that is to build a resort on 50ha at Hoi Van Spa in Phu Cat.
