SEMLA reaps initial results
16:59', 6/3/ 2008 (GMT+7)

The programme on strengthening environmental management and land administration in Vietnam (SEMLA) has reaped considerable results after being carried out in Binh Dinh.

The programme aims at improving the capacity at national, provincial and local levels to address pollution and other environmental issues and to provide efficient land administration services.

The goal of SEMLA is also to establish an effective and efficient system of environmental and natural resources management that contributes to meet Binh Dinh’s sustainable development demands - economic growth associated with poverty alleviation, natural disaster control, environmental protection and various social issues.

To effectively carry out the program, Binh Dinh Steering Board of SEMLA program  has conducted many projects which are divided into many components for different periods.

For the project of preventing, controlling, and restoring the pollution, the steering board proposed the regulation on environmental protection submitted for provincial People's Committee's approval.

A community-based regulation on environmental protection was also carried out in Ngo May town of Phu Cat District. Many activities were held to raise the people's awareness of environmental protection.

The most encouraging result was that SEMLA helped uphold the propagandists' role in providing the information on environment and land for the people, said vice director of Binh Dinh Environment and Natural Resources Department, Dang Trung Thanh.

As planned, SEMLA program will be conducted in other localities this year, contributing to strengthen environmental management and land administration in Binh Dinh.
