A seminar on Binh Dinh’s wood processing and Vietnam’s wood processing industry for the 2006-2010 period held in Quy Nhon on May 21.

Representatives of the Department of Agro-Forestry Products Processing and Salt Industry under Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, relevant bodies and agencies, and over 30 enterprises in Binh Dinh attended the seminar.

Reports stated that Vietnam’s wood export and processing industry has greatly stepped forward. At present, there are 2,000 wood processing enterprises nationwide. Their products are exported to 120 countries. The 2007’s export turnover of wood products recorded at nearly US$2.4 billion.

Binh Dinh has 64 wood processing enterprises, contributing to the development of wood processing industry nationwide.

However, wood processing enterprises are now facing many difficulties. Their scale hasn’t met the demands.

Participants agreed that enterprises have to focus on developing raw material areas, investing in equipment, and improving the quality.

The trade promotion and markets should also be furthered for the sustainable development of wood processing industry.
