Being conducted for nearly 3 months, the project of “supporting farmers in accessing to internet information for the rural socio-economic development in Binh Dinh” has smoothly run as planned, receiving positive response from farmers.
Before carrying out the project, the project management board had visited other provinces to learn experiences. In Ninh Thuan, they studied models of internet café in rural and disadvantaged areas. In Binh Thuan, they studied the mobilization to help farmers to access to the internet information for the production expansion.
Binh Dinh Department of Information and Communications and Binh Dinh Farmers’ Association built a website of provincial Farmers’ Association to provide necessary information for farmers, including policies, resolutions, and agricultural knowledge, let alone other useful information.
To help farmers effectively use the internet, some training courses opened in Vinh Thanh, Tay Son, Hoai An, and Phu Cat. After three months, they could know how to use a computer to access the information, sign up for their own e-mails, and share experiences through the internet.
The training courses also helped a majority of farmers to overcome their shyness because they often think that computing, especially internet, is for the rich and city-dwellers. They are aware of the importance of information in business and of the internet in the modern age. All wanted to participate in another advanced courses after finishing their basic courses.
Learning experiences from the conduction of project in four districts, more 14 training courses will be opened in other 7 districts. Alongside this, a club will be set up, meeting farmers’ demands in using the internet. The project management board will also ensure all facilities, creating favorable conditions for farmers. The training and phase one of the project are expected to finish by late October.
