Local GDP grows by 10.9 percent in 9 months

A meeting on the socio-economic situation in the past 9 months and key tasks in the 4th quarter this year was held on September 23.

Chairman of provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Thien chaired the meeting.

Reports stated that Binh Dinh’s economy has continued growing. The local GDP was estimated to reach nearly 6 trillion VND, a rise of 10.9 percent compared to that of 2007.

Agricultural, forest, and aquatic products grew by 8 percent. Industry and construction were up15.8 percent. Services increased 10.9 percent.

Social and cultural activities as well as social welfare were ensured. The public order was stable. Local authorities proved effective.

At the meeting, leaders of provincial bodies talked about difficulties of provincial socio-economic situation and measures.

Provincial Chairman Thien said that the 4th quarter’s tasks needed focusing, asking all bodies and agencies to strive to finish key tasks in 2008.

Flood and epidemic prevention need focusing on immediately. The Government’s measures should be effectively carried out to restrain the price increase and inflation, ensure the social welfare and sustainable development, and strengthen approved projects, he added.
