Binh Dinh People’s Committee on November 27 held a meeting on evaluating the 2009’s socio-economic situation and implementing the 2010’s tasks. Participants talked about the province’s economic development and measures to carry out plans next year.
Many difficulties
The reports agreed the 2009 saw many disadvantages, such as financial crisis, global economic regression, natural disaster, and the spread of flu A/H1N1, affecting the socio-economic situation, particularly the businesses’ operation.
Alongside these, there still exist some shortcomings. The economic mechanism, for example, has been slowly improved, the investment from the State budget showed low effectiveness, and the industrial production value was not very high.
The industrial production also needs to improve its competitiveness, the scale, and investment environment, let alone the old-fashioned technologies, the lack of raw material and highly qualified manpower. At present, the added value of the province’s industry sector mostly comes from new businesses.
In the field of export, the province’s potential hasn’t been fully exploited. There are no new products with high added value for export. The province’s export is easily, therefore, affected if there are any changes outside.
Also, the planning, land clearance, compensation, and resettlement have been slowly implemented, affecting newly-invested projects.
The 2010’s targets
Experts forecast the province’s economy will still face many challenges next year. Also, the global economy will be changeable, affecting many businesses in Binh Dinh, let alone the inflation and financial crisis.
On the other hand, the province’s shortcomings couldn’t be solved immediately. However, participants agreed the province’s GDP will increase by 9 percent next year, of which industry and construction will see a surge of 11 percent, agro-forestry-fisheries 6 percent, and trade and services 10 percent.
All relevant bodies and agencies are, therefore, required to make all-out efforts to carry out the 2010’s plans, aiming to fulfill the five-year plan (2006-2010) and create favorable conditions for the socio-economic development in the next five years.
Accordingly, functional bodies need to improve the investment environment, boost the industrial production, improve the function of services, and maintain the stable growth in fields of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries.
Speaking at the meeting, the province’s Chairman Nguyen Van Thien asked functional bodies need to work out measures to enhance the competitiveness and plan the trade promotion.
Also, he asked relevant bodies must focus on the administrative reform and raise their staff’s awareness. Thien called for all businesses to make every effort to overcome difficulties and maintain their operation, helping the province fulfill its approved tasks.
