Under the support of the local authorities and functional bodies, many craft villages in Binh Dinh have gradually showed their revival. However, they’ve also faced many difficulties in global integration. Nguyen Van Thang, vice director of the province’s Department of Industry and Trade, talked more about the issue.
Could you talk about the development and distinctive features of craft villages in Binh Dinh?
Craft villages play an important role in the province’s social-economic development strategy, contributing to the economic structure change.
Craft villages, however, still have several disadvantages, such as small scale, limited designs and market, and poorly skilled workforce.
Many products also have tangible and intangible value, including Cho Huyen fermented pork roll, Bau Da wine, Cam Van inlay with mother-of-pearl, or Tam Quan coconut matting.
At present, there are five craft villages oriented for the tourism development: Tay Phuong Danh blacksmith village, Nhan Thap carved wood village, Bau Da wine village, Phu Gia conical hat village, Ha Ri brocade making village.
After Vietnam joined WTO, what challenges are craft villages in Binh Dinh facing now?
After Vietnam had joined WTO, the province’s craft villages have had many opportunities, such as extended markets, investment attraction, advanced technology application, and competitiveness enhancement.
However, they also have to face difficulties: no State protectionism, competitiveness, and WTO’s strict regulations; whilst, craft villages’ production still can’t meet all demands, let alone the lack of experience and information resulting in many difficulties.
What solutions are needed for the stable and sustainable development of craft villages in Binh Dinh?
Alongside the implementation of feasible projects, the planning and management should be strengthened. Also, craft villages must be benefited from credit sources and post-investment interest rate support.
The production effectiveness and trade promotion need to be supported, aiming to improve the quality and sales.
Craft villages need to focus on extending their production, development products with high competitiveness.
The information on regulations, policies, as well as markets should be updated to avoid risks and promptly cope will all situations, maintaining the stable development.
The trade promotion and construction of brand name need focusing on. Also, the cooperation among craft villages and enterprises is necessary to improve the competitiveness and ensure the stable and sustainable development.
