People in remote and mountainous areas are now able to surf the internet to find the information. The internet has partly contributed to improve the people’s living conditions in the disadvantaged areas.

About 4-5 years ago, people in the province’s remote and mountainous areas didn’t know what is the internet.

However, after the internet providers, mainly VNPT, had focused on developing their telecommunications services in these areas, the locals became familiar with the internet.

The number of internet subscribers in the remote and mountainous areas in Binh Dinh have considerably increased in the past few years. Statistics showed that there are 1,260 new subscribers in An Lao District, 296 in Vinh Thanh, and 200 in Van Canh.

The internet not only meets the locals’ demand for information but narrows the social-economic gap between rural and urban areas.

“Previously, I had to listen to the radio or read newspapers to know the information, but now I can easily find what I need thanks to the internet,” said Do Thi Loan, a local in Vinh Quang commune, Vinh Thanh District.

Many households in remote and mountainous areas are now able to take full advantage of the internet to update the information of all fields.

“The internet has bridged people in mountainous areas with the whole world,” said Chairman of Vinh Thanh District People’s Committee, Tran Cong Sy. “It has dramatically changed our lives.”

To meet the increasing demand for internet in mountainous areas, internet providers have focused on developing the infrastructure.

“Basing on the demand in remote and mountainous areas, telecommunications services are more and more developed,” said Nguyen Hang, director of Binh Dinh Telecommunications Company. “This not only helps the locals use advanced technologies but increase the company’s turnover.”
