The province’s Department of Transport kicked off the rural traffic project 3 in My Phong commune, Phu My District. The project aims to improve roads, contributing to the socio-economic development at localities.
Rural traffic in bad condition
Roads in rural areas couldn’t met requirements. Most became dusty in the dry season and muddy in the wet season. Many roads have been upgraded since 2000.
About 1,903 km of road was concreted in the province so far, contributing to the socio-economic development in rural areas.
However, the traffic infrastructure in many rural and mountainous areas are still in bad condition, according to the caretaker director of Transport Department, Nguyen Ha Dong. This has resulted in many difficulties in improving the social-economic development in rural areas.
The province has strived to concrete 700 km of roads in rural areas until 2010, aiming to create driving force for the rural development.
However, the local budget for traffic upgrade is quite modest. The province had to, therefore, call on the support from other sources.
The rural traffic project 3, using the World Bank’s loan and non-refundable aid from the British Government, aims to improve about 3,150 km of land road in 33 provinces and cities.
Under the project, the province’s roads in worst conditions had priority for upgrade, including Tay Vinh-Cat Lam road with a length of 16.3 km and Deo Nhong-My Tho road with a length of 8.7 km. The construction will be carried out within 14 months with the capital of VND55.7 billion.
Improve the traffic network
The construction of Deo Nhong-My Tho and Tay Vinh-Cat Lam roads aims to gradually better the traffic infrastructure in the province, partly creating favourable conditions for the socio-economic development in communes of Binh Thuan, Cat Hiep, Cat Lam, My Trinh, My Phong, and My Tho.
The Deo Nhong-My Tho road connecting the national highway No 1A with the provincial road No 632 passes through three communes of My Trinh, My Phong, and My Tho.
Similarly, the Tay Vinh-Cat Lam road also needs improvement. The local authorities and residents all support the implementation of the project.
“We’ll closely coordinate with contractors to quickly resolve all difficulties when the road construction is carried out,” said Ha Ngoc Tan, Chairman of Phu My District People’s Committee.
As planned, the construction of two road is scheduled to finish by early July next year. However, with the support from local authorities and people, the construction is expected to complete before the deadline.
