The Binh Dinh Province Association for Production and Import - Export of Wood and Forest Products (Forestpro Binh Dinh) and Guangdong’s DongGuan Furniture Association signed an MoU on the cooperation, investment, and development in the woodwork industry. This was a turning point, opening a new route for the province’s woodwork industry.

DongGuan – woodwork hub

Tran Bac Ha, Chairman of Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) cum honorary Chairman of Forestpro Binh Dinh, said he invited enterprises from Guangdong’s DongGuan Furniture Association to seminar on the opportunities for investments into woodwork exports between Binh Dinh and China’s Guangdong province held in Quy Nhon city for being impressed with their operation.

At the seminar, President of DongGuan Furniture Association, Yin Chengzhi, briefed the participants on the Guangdong’s woodwork industry.

DongGuan is the largest woodwork producing area in China and home to 2,200 furniture businesses. The DongGuan Furniture Association alone boasts 290 member companies, Yin said.

The association annually holds the international famous furniture fair, attracting many enterprises from China, Hongkong, and Taiwan.

A website and DongGuan Furniture journal were published, offering the information to its members. Also, the association has created favourable conditions for enterprises to promote their operation, coordinating with other associations worldwide.

Cooperation for development

The central province of Binh Dinh has been known as one of Vietnam’s woodwork hubs in recent years. The province’s woodwork industry has got giant steps in the past ten years.

Binh Dinh is home to 110 woodworking enterprises with a total investment capital of 53 million USD and 30,000 workers. Woodwork exports now account for over 60 percent of the province’s total annual export turnover.

The markets for woodwork exports have been extended. The province’s furniture exporters now become partners of the world leading retail groups, such as Carrefour, Metro, and Auchan, according to Forestpro Binh Dinh Chairman Nguyen An Diem.

Binh Dinh and Guangdong are two woodwork hubs in Vietnam and China. Taking full advantage of potential and opportunities, Forestpro Binh Dinh and DongGuan Furniture Association signed an MoU, aiming to implement cooperation and development programs between two provinces.

Speaking at the seminar, the province’s Chairman Nguyen Van Thien highly appreciated the cooperation of BIDV, Binh Dinh People’s Committee, ForestPro Binh Dinh, and DongGuan Furniture Association.

Thien said that the province plans to zone off 1,000 ha in the Cat Lam and Cat Hiep Industrial Complexes for expanding the woodwork industry

He also expressed his wishes that partners from Guangdong will help local businesses in trade promotion, production, new technologies, training and finding new markets.
