Locating in the north of Ha Thanh River, the resettlement area for fishermen is a new urban are with a wonderful view over Thi Nai Bridge.

Nearly 1,000 households from wards of Tran Phu and Hai Cang came here to resettle after the land clearance had been carried out to build Xuan Dieu street.

The first impression is rows of spacious houses. Many two-or-three storey houses, cafés, and restaurants were built by the riverside. Fishermen now have more chances to do business.

Before moving to live in the new urban area, most fishermen had lived in a slum area in wards of Tran Phu and Hai Cang. They are now resettled in newly-built houses.

“11 members of my family lived in a small house and went fishing, but our life has changed when moving to live here,” said a fisherman. “My youngest son is attending a vocational training course and he won’t have to go fishing anymore.”

Many fishermen’s children dropped out of schools, the figure has gradually reduced thanks to a newly-built primary school in the new academic year.

A new mooring and fishing logistics service were also set up, aiming to help the fishermen feel secure to live and work in the new resettlement area, said Tran Van Hau, vice director of Quy Nhon city’s construction and investment management board.
