The Prime Minister signed the Decision on recognizing Quy Nhon as the first-grade city administered the central province of Binh Dinh. Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Thai Ngoc Bich talks more about the city’s planning for its further development.
Could you brief us on the city’s effort to be recognized as the first-grade city administered Binh Dinh Province?
Under the leadership of provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee, the local authorities and people have made all-out effort to reap important achievements, effectively implement policies, and take full advantage of available potential.
After becoming the second-grade city in 1998, the municipal leaders focused on developing business, building infrastructure, and changing the city’s appearance. Many key works have been built in the past five years, such as the 30000-ton-wharf at Quy Nhon Port, Thi Nai Bridge, and Thap Doi Park.
Also, the socio-economic development, people’s living standard, political security and public order are given great concern. Alongside Phu Tai and Long My industrial zones, Nhon Binh and Quang Trung IZs have attracted a large number of investors.
The trade and service sector plays an important role in the city’s economic development. Many hotels and tourism site were newly built and upgraded, meeting the tourists’ demand when they visit Binh Dinh.
What are the solutions for the city’s further development?
There are still many issues requiring solutions after Quy Nhon became the first-grade city. With the target of becoming a central urban in the central region and Central Highlands, it’s necessary to focus on the city planning, aimed at making Quy Nhon become a modern coastal city with a “green, clean, and beautiful environment”.
Besides, the city needs to create favourable conditions for the investment attraction and its potential and advantages must be fully exploited.
At present, the city has undergone massive changes in the infrastructure construction. Accordingly, Bui Thi Xuan industrial park will be built. The traffic system will also be rearranged, shortening the distance between the old urban areas and the new ones.
Alongside these, the municipal leaders will make every effort to resolve some issues, including job, poverty reduction, and living standard improvement.
Do you think that Quy Nhon will be further develop after being recognized as the first-grade city?
With many advantages and great potential, Quy Nhon is required to develop, meeting its role and functions in the central region and Central Highlands.
Being the first-grade city, Quy Nhon is expected to play a core role in the urban system. The regional connection will create preferential conditions for the cooperation among cities, helping it strongly develop in the future.
