The branch of Vietnam Bank for Social Policies in Binh Dinh has effectively implemented the credit program for the national strategy for rural clean water and environmental sanitation across the province. Vice director of the province’s Bank for Social Policies, Nguyen Dinh Son, talks more about the issue.
Could you reveal the contents of the credit program for the national strategy for rural clean water and environmental sanitation?
In 2004, the Prime Minister promulgated the Decision No 62 on credits for the national target program for rural clean water and environmental sanitation, aimed at helping those living in rural areas take out loans to build water supply systems and sanitation works.
Borrowers don’t need to mortgage their properties and if they face financial problems, they will be granted an extension.
Each could take out a loan of 4 million VND with the interest rate of 0.65 percent per month.
How has the program been implemented and its results?
The province’s Bank for Social Policies coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and provincial bodies to popularize the credit program in rural areas.
People were instructed to take out a loan and select models for sanitation works and water supply systems.
According to our surveys, they are really happy when taking out loans to build clean water and sanitation works.
The credits for the national strategy for rural clean water and environmental sanitation have helped reduce the environmental pollution and the shortage of clean water in rural areas.
Will the credit program be continued this year?
The credit program has proved effective. People were given the most favourable condition to pay back their loans because the interest rate is quite low and the deadline is lengthened. Notably, many borrowers repaid their loans before the deadline.
The province’s Bank for Social Policies has offered 35 billion to rural people, helping them build water supply systems and sanitation works.
