Finishing in time
In 2007, the People’s Committee of Binh Dinh Province decided to build another road in the west, connecting districts of An Nhon, Tay Son, Phu Cat, Phu My, Hoai An, and Hoai Nhon with the national highways 1A and 19.
Under the project, the An Thai Bridge crossing the Con River is the biggest one on the road which has the length of 120 km.
Two big bridges on the road have been built since 2008, including An Thai and Cat Lam. The latter has been in operation last year whilst the An Thai Bridge opened for public use yesterday (May 19).
“Contractors were asked to speed up the progress in early this year; also, they were created favorable conditions to work,” said Vu Van Thanh, the Department of Transport’s official. “Alongside this, consultants closely monitored them to follow technical regulations.”
With their all-out effort, the construction of the An Thai Bridge was strengthened, meeting the deadline of May 19.
Meeting their need
When a road in the east was finished, connecting Nhon Hoi and Tam Quan, many also wished there would be a road in the west.
In the old days, two sides of the Con River were very busy, but there was no bridge. Residents living in Tay Vinh, one side of the Con River, decided to build a makeshift bamboo bridge.
However, the bridge couldn’t meet their ever-increasing demand for exchanging goods. Local people, thus, were very happy when the An Thai Bridge was built.
After the An Thai Bridge is in operation, the project will be continued to be implemented. Its parts from Nhon Tan-Nhon Phuc to Tay Vinh and Bong Son-Hoai Phu to Chuong Hoa are expected to be completed by late 2010.
The dream will soon come true when the road is fully operational in the future. The potential of localities in the west of the province will be fully exploited thanks to the project.
