Many people called the lighthouse shining above the sea “the eyes” of the sea. It’s the guiding light bringing safety to ships and becoming the hope of ships.

During the relief trips to Nhon Chau Island Commune, I often visited the lighthouse on Cu Lao Xanh and saw those who are in charge of the lighthouse. From there, I could see a panorama of the vast sky and boundless sea, enjoying the beauty of fresh air under a sky of stars and above the sparkling surface of the sea.
I got a feeling that this is the light of hopes, particularly of the unworldly responsibility those operating the lighthouse are taking. Despite difficult living conditions, they always keep “the eyes” of the sea becoming a “sleepless light” at night.
This is the symbol of safety and hope for vessels at sea. Without the “eyes”, ships travelling at night could face many accidents caused by hazardous shoals, reefs and corals. It’s also the signal helping ships know where to return when a storm is coming.
The Cu Lao Xanh’s lighthouse is one of 19 lamps and 5 channels operated by the Maritime Safety Company No.201.
“Our staff always try to overcome the difficulties to complete our mission. Hence, all lighthouses have been fully operational. Its technical features of daytime and nighttime colour are also ensured. Besides, the guiding floating system is maintained in accordance with the technical features. We has always fulfilled our tasks and tried to prevent any marine accidents that may be caused by our signal system,” said Doan Hai Au, the company’s director.
The company is always concerned of the task of operating lighthouses and channels as well as inspecting, maintaining and replacing signal systems.
It now has a highly-qualified staff thanks to its focus on improving professional and technical knowledge for employees. In addition, the labor protection and safety are often given special attention.
Many members of its staff have been honored by the Binh Dinh Province People's Committee, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Public Security in the past years.
