Gaining high increases
Like other woodwork exporters, the Tri Tin Co., Ltd has also faced many difficulties caused by floods and the shortage of raw material and manpower, according to the company’s director Nguyen Van Tham.
The company had to improve the design of many products, the quality as well as extend more markets, he added. As a result, its export turnover value reached nearly USD6.9 million, a surge of over 300 percent against the previous year’s corresponding period.
High export turnover value also saw in other woodwork exporters, such as Dai Thanh JSC, Phu Tai JSC, My Tai Co., Ltd, Anh Viet Co., Ltd, Khai Vy Quy Nhon Co., Ltd, and Tien Dat JSC.
The statistics released by the Department of Industry and Trade showed the province’s total export turnover value was estimated to reach US$22.2 million in August, a rise of 12 percent against the same period last year.
The figure also said that the total export turnover has seen a value of nearly US$280 million in the first eight months of 2010, an increase of 33.1 percent compared to the same period last year, of which State-owned sector gained the value of US$9 million, up 12.3 percent, non State-owned enterprises US$261 million, up 34.4 percent, and foreign-invested ones US$9.8 million, up 24 percent.
Forestry products are among commodities gaining high export turnover value. The forestry products have got the value of US$162.3 million, accounting for 80 percent of the yearly target and increasing by 51 percent against the same period of 2009.
Continuing to overcome difficulties
The effective operation of woodwork exporters is an important driving force for them to make a breakthrough. Binh Dinh is expected to see the export turnover value of US$350 million this year, a rise of 11.3 percent over 2009, and the forestry products must reach US$205 million.
Many experts forecasted that the pressure of the global financial crisis and economic recession will reduce in the coming time; however, the domestic economy will be party affected and the woodwork sector will also face some big challenges.
The province’s woodwork exporters have to face trade and technical barriers, such as Lacey Act or FSC-CoC, according to Le Van Luong, director of Dai Thanh JSC and Vice Chairman of FPA Binh Dinh.
Alongside these, the shortage of raw material and manpower, particularly highly-qualified human resources, will still be a hot issue, said Do Xuan Lap, Tien Dat JSC’s director cum Vice Chairman of FPA Binh Dinh.
In addition to the design and quality improvement as well as trade promotion, the companies must focus on seeking the FSC-CoC- certified timber and developing the manpower. Stable jobs and preference policies are top priorities a company must have, aiming to help its employees feel secure about their future, he added.
The FPA Binh Dinh asked Binh Dinh People’s Committee and relevant bodies to create more favourable conditions for woodwork exporters, including the support for interest rate and worker training as well as the reduction of logistic service cost.
The FPA Binh Dinh will also boost the trade promotion-related activities and back its members to train their staff and improve the management capacity and woodwork processing technologies.
