Showing positive signs
Binh Dinh has faced many disadvantages, such as changeable weather, prolonged drought, and animal diseases, badly affecting the business operation and people’s life, according to the first-nine-month report released by the provincial People’s Committee.
However, thanks to synchronous measures and all-out efforts, the province’s economy has showed positive signs in the past months. The local GDP reached over VND7.2 trillion, a surge of 10.65 percent over the same period last year.
The industrial production, for example, showed the considerable growth with the total value of nearly VND5 trillion, a rise of 13.3 percent against the previous year’s corresponding period.
Among 23 key industrial commodities, 19 saw high growth, such as frozen shrimp, bottled beer, and wooden furniture, let alone some products having high export turnover value, including rice, minerals, and woodwork.
Commercial banks have also showed stable operation. They effectively applied the interest rate support policy, meeting the demand of many economic sectors. The total capital volume mobilized in the past nine months was estimated at over VND27 trillion, an increase of 18.8 percent.
The State budget revenue was estimated at nearly VND2 trillion, an increase of 6 percent compared to the same period last year. Alongside these, services and tourism have also seen high growth rate of nearly 14 percent, compared to the 2009’s same period.
Striving to fulfill targets
The province’s leaders admitted that the growth is high but not sustainable as the growth rate mainly depends on the width development and the investment capital increase, not on the effectiveness increase and labour productivity.
Also, some works have still showed low progress, such as lengthened Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, the road in the west, the Van Canh – Canh Lien road, or the treatment building at Binh Dinh General Hospital.
The total local GDP was set to increase by 10 percent, in which the construction and industry rise by 14.1 percent, agro-forestry-fishery 6.3 percent, and service 10.5 percent. All provincial bodies are asked to make all-out effort to fulfill the set targets in the last three months of 2010.
The agriculture sector must focus on preventing the cattle and poultry epidemic diseases and carrying out the plan for the Winter-Spring crop; meanwhile, the industry and trade sector needs to continue boosting the production and export activities.
While maintaining traditional markets, the industry and trade sector was also asked to expand new markets.
All localities and bodies should be ready for the flood and storm prevention, ensuring the people’s life and production.
Provincial bodies and agencies need to work out measures to overcome difficulties, aiming to boost the progress of projects and build programmes for agriculture and rural development to improve the rural people’s living standard.
The last three months will also see the high demand for goods; thus, functional bodies were required to promote their inspection to control the price. All localities and functional bodies must ensure the quality of goods and enough goods for the upcoming Tet (lunar New Year) holiday.
