Vice Chairman of Saigon Invest Group, Dang Nhat:
The group decided to invest in two projects in Binh Dinh, including paper mill and thermoelectric center. The paper mill which is designed to have a capacity of 1,500-2,000 tonnes per year will be built in Nhon Hoi Economic Zone, but we haven’t received land so far. The thermoelectric center project was also approved by the Government.
Foreign investors have mostly poured their capital into Ha Noi and HCM City recently. We hoped that the province’s leaders will give much more attention to the foreign investment attraction.
Chairman and chief executive officer of the Vietnamese-American Hotel and Resort Co, Tran Duc Canh:
The company has built the Vinh Hoi Bay Golf Resort which was kicked off in 2007. We have also signed contracts with 5 hotel management companies. The project is designed to include trade center, golf course, luxury hotels, and other items. The Vinh Hoi resort is expected to become one of attractive destinations in Binh Dinh.
We see Binh Dinh and its neighboring provinces have great potential for tourism development, but it’s necessary to have short-term and long-term development strategies.
One of the province’s problems is the compensation for land clearance. As for our project, for example, the land clearance has been carried out slowly even though the resettlement area was built.
General director of OSEVEN Corp., Nguyen Thanh Phong:
Binh Dinh’s investment commitment and administration reform make us as well as other investors feel secure when investing in the province.
Another advantage is more than 3,000 hectares of land dedicated to industry, proving the province’s determination to develop industry. If the whole area is fully covered, it will be a great opportunity for Binh Dinh to quickly and sustainably develop its economy.
However, we also asked the local authorities not to license small-scale projects which are invested outside industrial zones. Investors should be given land located in favourable positions. Also, it’s necessary to promulgate policies for the sustainable manpower development and pay more attention to post-investment services.
Chairwoman of Vietnam Coconut Association, Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh:
We proposed developing coconut trees in Binh Dinh with the province’s Departments of Industry and Trade; Culture, Sports, and Tourism. The Binh Dinh Tourism Promotion Center also expressed their support for the craft village tourism project which focuses on the community-based tourism development in Binh Dinh and other provinces which are home of coconut trees.
We hope that the provincial leaders will pay much more attention to this field.
