The project funded by the Belgian Government has been implemented in six districts of Phu Cat, Phu My, Tuy Phuoc, Tay Son, An Nhon, and Hoai Nhon from 2009 to 2014 with the following components: water supply in Phu Cat, upgrade of Hoc Mon water reservoir in Phu My, and construction of solid waste treatment system.
It aims to improve the capacity of relevant bodies in planning, designing, and managing the rural water supply system as well as solid waste management ones and raise the people’s awareness of safe water usage and water preservation.
The project has the total capital of 8.95 million EURO of which the Belgian Government finances 7.5 million EURO and Vietnam Government contributes the rest. Most of its components have been implemented so far.
As for the component of capacity building for relevant bodies, the provincial project management unit (PPMU) finished evaluating the official training demand in six districts and some relevant bodies at the provincial level.
At present, PPMU has completed the plan for the capacity building program in the 2011-2012 period. It also helped the officials to design detailed plans for the solid waste management in districts of Hoai Nhon, Phu My, An Nhon, and Tay Son.
Alongside these, the PPMU opened some training courses on the solid waste management system.
As for the component of construction of rural water supply systems, the land clearance and compensation were completed.
In addition, the provincial People’s Committee approved the bidding plan for 14 package deals. As planned, the preparation for the bidding plan is now ready and all are expected to finish in the coming time.
The provincial Steering Board for the project held the third meeting to evaluate the project implementation and work out solutions for any problems.
The PPMU will continue holding some activities in the first six months of 2011, such as training courses and workshops, aiming to enhance the capacity of relevant bodies in planning, designing, and managing the rural water supply system as well as solid waste management ones.
Also, the PPMU will boost the other programs, raising the awareness of the community about the safe water usage and water preservation.
Speaking at the meeting, provincial Vice Chairman Ho Quoc Dung asked functional bodies and local authorities to promote the progress of the project, meeting its deadline.
