The rural power grid in 26 communes across the province will be upgraded this year under the Rural Electrification Phase II (RE2) and RE2 expansion projects, according to Director of Department of Industry and Trade, Nguyen Kim Phuong.

The total capital of US$6 million funded by WB and VND10 billion contributed by the province will be mainly used for the land acquisition and compensation.

The province’s determination to help all communes to access the national grid by late 2011 is expected to create favorable conditions for the construction of new rural areas.

Also, the program will help rural people to develop their business and contribute the poverty alleviation movement.

The RE2 project is comprised of two phases. The first phase is from 2005-2010 and the second phase is from 2006-2011. The project was carried out in 51 communes of 10 districts with the total capital of over US$10.6 million and VND20 billion.
