Tourism promotion on the right track

Many visitors coming to HCM City tourism day 2011 visited Binh Dinh’s stall.

The efficiency of tourism promotion has partly contributed to the development of Binh Dinh tourism. Director of Binh Dinh Tourism Promotion and Information Centre, Huynh Cao Nhat, spoke with Binh Dinh Newspaper’s journalist about the issue in the 2006-2010 and 2011-2015 periods.

What do you think about tourism promotion in Binh Dinh in recent years?

The tourism promotion activities have been strengthened, meeting the authorized bodies’ planning. All relevant programs were built to popularize the province’s unique features and potential in tourism.

Different measures were used to foster tourism activities. Many businesses, thus, contributed 35 percent of the total expenses to the tourism promotion.

The number of visitors coming to Binh Dinh has annually increased and many tour operators offered some tours to Binh Dinh.

The mass media in Binh Dinh, Ha Noi, and HCM City always sees many programs introducing Binh Dinh’s land and people. About 200 articles and 40 TV programs, for example, are about the province’s destinations, landscapes, and well-known cultural and historical features.

The centre already built a website to effectively promote the local tourism activities via internet.

The local travel agencies were also supported to join tourism fairs and workshops held in different localities, aiming to popularize their brand names and tourism services.

The centre also coordinated with relevant bodies and Ha Noi and HCM City to boost its propagation in these tourism markets. Recently, 45 tour operators and representatives of the mass media in HCM City and Ha Noi were invited to join a FAM trip in Binh Dinh to study the province’s tourism products and potential.

Five new publications introducing Binh Dinh’s tourism and relevant projects have been published since 2006. Alongside this, the centre coordinated with other schools to open training courses on tourism.

It is clear the centre’s tourism promotion activities are on the right track. Could you talk more about the results?

We are glad to see the tourism promotion getting the local business’s belief. They have given more attention to the socialization of tourism promotion.

We also realized that Ha Noi, HCM City, and Central Highland provinces are the key markets of Binh Dinh tourism. Most of its tourism products are suitable to meet domestic visitors.

However, at present, the province’s infrastructure and services only meet the domestic demands. This, thus, requires improvement so that the province is able to attract more and more tourists.

What are the disadvantages of the local tourism promotion?

The shortage of money for tourism promotion program is one of difficulties that needs overcoming. A total of over 1 trillion VND was, for instance, allocated to tourism promotion activities from 2007-2010.

Also, the local tourism does not have high competitiveness as its services and destinations are less attractive and impressive that other provinces, causing difficulties for tourism promotion programs.

Tour operators and relevant bodies haven’t got a close cooperation so far while those who work in the field of tourism promotion are inexperienced.

Could you reveal some main tasks of the local tourism promotion in the 2011-2015 period?

The tourism promotion will focus on the following issues: activities raising the awareness of tourism development, improvement of the programs introducing the local tourism services and advantages, and more advertisements for Binh Dinh on the mass media and internet.

We will also strengthen activities in potential markets and improve the quality of FAM trip as well as the participation in big fairs and workshops, let alone the support for local businesses.
