The water supply and sanitation project was carried out in Binh Dinh in 2009 and it is expected to finish by 2014. Six districts of Phu Cat, Phu My, Tuy Phuoc, Tay Son, An Nhon, and Hoai Nhon benefit from the project.

It aims to improve the capacity of relevant bodies in planning, designing, and managing the rural water supply system as well as solid waste management ones and raise the people’s awareness of safe water usage and water preservation.

The provincial Project Management Unit (PPMU) has finished the evaluation of the demand for official training in six districts and other bodies. It is now planning the capacity building program for the 2011-2012 period.

In addition, the staff serving the project was instructed to join the solid waste management planning in four districts of Hoai Nhon, Phu My, An Nhon, and Tay Son.

The PPMU also offered training courses on solid waste management to functional bodies in four above-mentioned districts. Its officials were also assigned to attend some courses in Quang Nam province.

Aiming to raise the community’s awareness, local bodies also opened some communication courses on solid waste, clean water and environmental sanitation in rural areas. Many groups were formed to raise the local residents’ awareness of clean water and solid waste.

As for the “rural water supply construction” component, 5 communes in Phu Cat district and 2 in Tuy Phuoc benefit from the project. To implement the component, the land acquisition and compensation were already completed.

At present, a detailed planning is being built for the construction of solid waste treatment system in four districts of Hoai Nhon, Phu My, An Nhon, and Tay Son.

As planned, the PPMU will continue opening workshops and seminars in the last six months of 2011, aiming to improve the capacity of relevant bodies in fields of planning and designing.

Alongside this, the water supply system in rural areas as well as solid waste management systems in 6 districts were under control.

The PPMU will also boost the propagation, raising the community’s awareness of safe water usage, environment prevention, waste recycle, and water resource prevention.

In addition, 14 bids are expected to kick off next month and they will be put into operation by December, 2012. “The PPMU will closely coordinate with localities and bodies to implement the project on the right track,” said Tran Dinh Luan, a PPMU’s official.
