Shrimp breeders in Phuoc Hoa commune’s Kim Dong hamlet (Tuy Phuoc District) enjoyed a record-breaking shrimp harvest in spite of the very changeable weather.

To the end of May, they harvested 14 tons per hectare of white-leg shrimps, of which 13 tons came from improved extensive culture operation that gains a profit of VND25-30 million per hectare, and 1 tons came from semi-intensive farming that gains a profit of VND300 million per hectare, according to Vice Chairman of the Phuoc Hoa commune People’s Committee Nguyen Ngoc Son.

The shrimp harvest in Kim Dong Hamlet has started from mid-May. Many refrigerated vans and trucks carried crowdedly shrimp in and out.

According to shrimp breeders’ estimation, the cost of production, breeds, foods and fuels were high, but the shrimp price rose nearly VND20,000 per kilogram in return; thus, they still earned high profit. The white-leg shrimp currently has an average price of VND86,000 per kilogram (100 shrimps) and VND115,000 per kilogram (69 shrimps). The bigger shrimps are, the higher the price is.

Having a bumper harvest of shrimp, Kim Dong shrimp breeders are excited. They are improving their shrimp ponds and will release new breeds in mid-June.
