Farmers had many advantages in the Winter-Spring crop this year, effectively increasing their production capacity. However, they still faced some difficulties, such as flood, petrol increase, and foodstuff for cattle.
The agriculture sector and local authorities strengthened many measures, focusing on seed selection, production techniques for farmers. These helped farmers avoid disadvantageous factors, reduce the input expenses, and increase effectiveness.
In this year’s winter-spring crop, there are also many new rice varieties and the crop timetable is also adjusted.
As for the Summer-Autumn crop, the agriculture sector adjusted the rice variety structure and crop timetable, making them suitable to the reality. Functional bodies also implemented different measures to prevent epidemic diseases in cattle and poultry.
According to the statistics released by Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Binh Dinh saw 47,790 hectares of rice in the Spring-Winter crop with an average capacity of 62.4 tonnes per hectare while there were 42,203 hectares of rice in the Summer-Autumn crop.
Alongside these, breeding and aquaculture reaped many positive results. The aquaculture output reached 75,134 tonnes in the first six months of 2011, a rise of 4.4 percent.
“Despite many difficulties, the province’s agricultural production has still maintained high growth,” said the Department’s director Phan Trong Ho. “The agricultural production value was estimated to reach over VND7 trillion in the first six months of 2011.”
All measures proving effective are now applied for this year’s crop. Binh Dinh is, thus, expected to see a bumper harvest ahead.
