No formal qualification “engineer” with practical inventions

In spite of no formal qualifications in electronics, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Huong, leader of AX REMOCON private company (at No. 2, Lac Long Quan St., Tran Quang Dieu Ward, Quy Nhon City) has invented many electronic devices, including automatic skylights, wireless fire alarm systems, wireless server calling systems, mouse expellers and mosquito expellers, etc. The devices have been already available on markets and have become widely popular.

Interesting inventions

Traditional skylights are usually opened and closed via mechanic pulleys or semi-automatic operators. They are inconvenient in case of unexpected rains while there is nobody at home to open or close the skylights.

Mr Huong’s skylights automatically close when it rains. Rainfalls activate the system’s rain sensors which interrupt low intensity circuits passing through switch of slide panels, causing motors to roll, leading to move of the pulleys and then, the skylights gradually close. When it is sunny, the skylights automatically open.

Many families in Quy Nhon City have installed Mr. Huong’s skylights.

I find satisfied most with the new technology which has been improved and operated stably after several years of my research, says Mr. Huong. Structure of each skylight varies on place of installation and open air space while maintains the efficient use and elegant appearance of the system.

Another interesting invention of Mr. Huong is the wireless server calling system for restaurants. It has a call receiver which is installed at receptionists and a set of buttons at customer tables. The customers just press down the buttons when they need the servers.

The system then sends signals to lights and bells at the receptionists let the servers know who are in need. With such the device, the restaurants can offer more professional services to the customers.

Besides the two inventions above, Mr. Huong develops useful devices from old equipments like mouse expellers, mosquito expellers, etc. He is also “expert” in designing household remote controlling, wireless automatic electronic circuits.

Ceaseless self-teaching

Mr. Huong was born in 1962. He used to start his own carpentry business and make speakers for sale. While teaching himself electronic circuits to fit into the speakers, he developed his passion for electronics. In 1990s, second-hand TVs and electronic devices were popular. So were the needs of repairing them. The more Huong taught himself repairing the devices, the more he found interested. Huong also learnt from more experienced and skilled electronic servicemen.

At that time, it was very hard to find a reference manual. Huong always keeps a notebook to write down any idea flashed upon him or imperfect products for convenient reference in all times or search for relevant books.

Huong even hires an entire room as lab for his self-teaching and research. The so-called lab- business premise – residential place is always cramped up with electric and electronic devices/gadgets.

The reason is that he has to dismantle failed products, detecting and correcting errors through trial and error method. Let take an example, in order to improve the mouse expeller, he has to catch and raise various kinds of mice to test the device.

The products are small but have great uses, he thinks. They, thus, should be always improved and optimized for efficient use and minimal demand of repair.

However, Huong is facing a difficulty – capital for the product research and development. He wants to co-operate with people who share the same mind to implement mass production instead of  make-to-order production; through which, prices of his products can decrease.
