Phu Cat district to grow 2011 WB3 forests
14:15', 25/8/ 2011 (GMT+7)

From the beginning of the year till now, management unit of the WB-funded forest sector development project (WB3 project) at Phu Cat district has prepared for the 2011 afforestation season.

The Project Management Unit (PMU) has also collaborated with relevant authorities to do land survey for the afforestation.

270 households over 6 communes of the district have registered to grow more than 470 hectares of forests. The number of registered communes decreases (3 less) but the number of registered households increases (57 more, 120% higher than expected targets).

Vegetation clearance has been already done over areas for the 2011 WB3 afforestation. The 6 communes have prepared seeds, ensuring the timely afforestation.

Phu Cat authorities have guided the local forest growers to look after well old forests which were grown in 2007-2010. The district government has also disbursed over 7.8 billion of VND for the forest care. The PMU establishes 49 groups of forest growers, helping them during procedures of setting files for FSC certificates.

After 6 years of operating the WB3 project, total area of grown forests under the project in Phu Cat now reaches 3,163 hectares, making up 77.15% of expected plan. 2,164 households over 11 communes register to grow the forests.

The district government grants 2,261 certificates of land use right for the forest growers. Generally, the forests grow well. Some are ready for harvest.

The project creates more jobs for the local people, helps to increase their incomes and efficiently exploit the lands.
