Mooncake season begins

More than half a month before the Mid-autumn Festival, many kinds of mooncakes have sold in the city. According to some mooncake producers, mooncake price and output are 15-30 percent higher than last year.

Prominent amongst the mooncake producers are Dong Khanh, Kinh Do, Bibica, Sanest, Ngoc Nga, Huu Nghi. Their products’s price as a whole is higher than last year.

To attract consumers, some producers renovate their mooncakes by special flavours, various form, and smart box designs. They also increase output and raising market share of high-quality mooncakes which  are made from finest selection of raw material such as swallow’s nest, abalone, fin, green pea dip with collagen, Alaska crab, macadamia bean… with price over VND1 million per box.

The Kinh Do Co. presents it’s a set of high-quality mooncakes named Trang Vang (Golden Moon), including 10 categories with highest price VND2 million per box.

Bibica also has De Nguyet worth VND1.2 million per box, accompanying with type of mooncakes suitable for the elderly and diabetics.

As for Ngoc Nga, the most famous mooncake producer in Binh Dinh, they also presents new designed and flavoured mooncakes besides traditional ones. The price and output increase by 10-15 percent compared to last year.

Besides high-quality mooncakes, unsafe mooncakes without clear indication of origin are also sold in the markets. Their price is about VND5.000-15.000 per cake, much cheaper than products of famous companies. Most of unsafe mooncakes has no production date and expiration date.

To ensure the food safety, customers should choose mooncakes having clear indication of origin and sold at prestigious shops. Beside high-quality mooncakes, they always sell common mooncakes worth VND25.000-30.000 per cake.
