The functional bodies coordinated with the schools in these districts to carry out surveys on students’ awareness of environment and solid waste. Also, training courses were held, aiming to raise the awareness of students and teachers about the environment and solid waste at school.
They were provided with the information about solid waste and its negative effects, diseases related to waste, and waste treatment. Alongside this, the issue of environment protection was mentioned through other subjects.
The program has initially gained some considerable results. Each school had its own way of implementing the program. According to Le Ho Nghiem, the project correspondent, most participating schools showed positive initial steps. They actively responded to the World Environment Day, organized special meetings on solid waste for its staff, and combine its tasks with the collection and classification of solid waste.
The teaching staff collected different materials to prepare for their lessons on solid waste, helping their students basically absorb the knowledge of the issue. The students accessed the information about solid waste via visual aids, games, drawing contest, and knowledge contest related to environment and solid waste.
The students were interested in the lessons; thus, they thoroughly understood the issue. Moreover, thanks to the program, the awareness of teachers and students about the environment and solid waste has been enhanced, helping them know to treat solid waste.
