Model of bio-safety chicken breeding shows good results
7:51', 30/8/ 2011 (GMT+7)

A workshop on final evaluation of the bio-safety chicken breeding model has just been co-organized by Binh Dinh Centre for Agriculture and Fisheries Promotion and Hoai An district Agency of Agriculture Promotion  at An Tuong Dong commune, Hoai An district, Binh Dinh province. The workshop aims to evaluate the model before its mass expansion at the locality.

There are 3 family-scale breeders with 500 Luong Phuong - breed chickens in the model. They are provided chicks, feed and drugs for the poultry. They are also trained on procedures and basic techniques of the chicken breeding: criteria-satisfactory breeding poultry, spacious facilities with chicken coops for the avian animals to shelter from rain and sun, well-balanced processed feed and clean water for the poultry, hygienic backyard and full vaccination for the animals.

After 80 days of breeding, the chicken flocks meet, even surpass all planned targets:  survival rate of the chicks reaches 95%, average weight of the chickens at time of sale is 2.1kg, average feed for each kilogram of the chicken is 2.55kg, average profit is nearly 10,000VND/chicken with the price of 55,000VND/kg of the alive chicken.

The model is economically efficient, enables the breeders to increase their incomes and partly satisfying demand of consumers for clean food.
