Cat Hai was one of the poorest communes in Phu Cat district 10 years ago. At present, it has gradually changed.

The road to present-day Cat Hai commune.

It was very difficult to travel to Cat Hai several years ago as it is separated by rivers and mountains. The local people’s life also faced severe hardship at that time.

However, all things are now different. Travelling along the road in the Nhon Hoi Economic Zone and then turning to the Nhon Hoi- Tam Quan coastal road, we will be in Cat Hai.

The coastal road offer many favourable conditions for those living here, according to the commune’s Chairman Dang Van Ha. It also contributes to Cat Hai’s economic development.

The commune carried out the reasonable economic mechanism transfer. In addition, the local authorities reduced rice field areas and increased areas for trees having high economic value, particularly onion, peanut, and maize.

As a result, its annual GDP has an average increase of 19 percent, a rise of 11 percent against the goal in the 2000-2005 period; meanwhile, the agro-forest-aquatic production value sees an average rise of 15.3 percent.

Cat Hai continued seeing improvements in the 2005-2010 period. The number of cultivation land earning VND50 million per hectare per year accounted for 298 hectares. The 5-year average growth was over 13 percent. The rate of poor households reduced by 15 percent from 35 percent in 2010.

Aiming to boost the local socio-economic development, its advantages will be given special concern in the coming years, new rural areas will be built, and local people’s living standard will be focused.

The face of Cat Hai has been changing and its potential in tourism and other sectors will be exploited in the coming time, giving the commune a bright future.
