When the Phuoc An industrial park (IP) was put into operation in 2004, it attracted 600 local laborers to work there. The figure is now nearly 3,000 people. Rural people living in Phuoc An commune of Tuy Phuoc district are now able to earn their living without travelling far from home.

According to the statistics, the commune saw an average number of 1,000-1,200 people leaving for HCM City and Southern provinces to work in 2004 as there are not enough cultivation land for all residents.

Their life has actually changed since the Phu Tai – Long My industrial zone was established, particularly Phuoc An IP which has attracted 11 businesses to operate in different fields, let alone 7 firms running outside the IP, creating jobs for thousands of rural people.

“We had had to earn our living far from home but we still coundn’t afford our lives. However, working at factories here has helped us improve our income and have much time to do housework,” said a worker of Nghia Phat Co., Ltd.

The IP is the “driving force” for the commune to transfer the economic mechanism, according to the commune’s Chairman Ho Trung Son. Most working-age laborers are now working at the IP with the average monthly income of VND1.5 million per capita.

Son added that the IP will be extended in the future and residential areas will also be re-planned, generating more jobs for the locals.

Phuoc An commune is now seeing the development of different services and industrial sectors. The local laborers were offered more jobs and the face of the commune is changing day by day.
