Vinh Thanh towards fast, sustainable poverty reduction
7:47', 19/9/ 2011 (GMT+7)

In recent years, Vinh Thanh district has invested in infrastructure, under the support from the Government’s Resolution No.30a. Its residents have been offered favourable conditions to increase their income and improve the living standard.

There are 8,128 households in Vinh Thanh and most of them do agricultural works. However, due to the shortage of cultivation land and the residents’ production knowledge, their life is still facing many difficulties.

The authorities of all levels have helped the district to upgrade the infrastructure as well as focus on the socio-economic development in recent years. Vinh Thanh is one of three poor districts benefiting from the Government’s Resolution No.30a since 2009.

In 2011, it has used a total of VND47 billion to build 32 works, including 10 traffic works, 10 irrigation works, 14 cultural and education items, and 2 medical facilities. Also, under the program, local farmers and officials were offered training courses and technical transfer.

Alongside these, other activities proved effective thanks to the financial support from the national target programs.

According to the district’s Chairman Tran Quoc Lai, infrastructure construction, housing for poor people, and official training partly contributed to change its face, meeting the residents’ demands.

However, the resolution implemetation has seen some difficulties, such as the shortage of capital, frequent adjustment, high unemployment rate, and low income.

Provincial Vice Chairwoman Tran Thi Thu Ha went on an inspection tour about the implementation of some works in communes of Vinh Hao and Vinh Son. She asked the local authorities to solve the problems, aiming to ensure the progress of the program.
