The WB-funded forest sector development project (WB3 project) has been implemented in Binh Dinh since 2005. It has brought many benefits to the localities and people participating in the project after six years.
After six years of implementing the project, more than 5,801 households planted 9,618 hectares of forest in districts of Phu My, Phu Cat, An Nhon, Tay Son, Van Canh, Tuy Phuoc, and Quy Nhon, according to Vice Director of province’s WB3 project management unit, Ngo Van Tinh. Most localities have effectively implemented the project.
13,188 hectares of land were planned and 85,507 households joining the afforestation project were granted the land use right certificate. Alongside these, over 93 billion VND was disbursed, helping these households to carry out the project.
The participating households were technically and financially supported to grow the forest. Most of the forests have well developed so far.
Also, the land use right certificate was quickly granted, encouraging the participating households to actively join the project.
Under the project, the functional bodies at grass roots level carefully checked the quality of seeds. The forest management was also carried out frequently.
The WB2 project will be continued until 2015. Accordingly, about 7,509 hectares of forest will be newly planted in 8 districts participating in the project.
In 2011, nearly 2,522 hectares are expected to be grown and 3,774 hectares of forest will be licensed. In addition, a total of over 23.4 billion VND will be disbursed.
Some measures, including communication, measurement, and land use right certificate granting, will be carried out to fulfill the set targets.
Each districts and communes will coordinate with the functional bodies to select households to join the project and prepare for relevant issues. The participating households will be trained in afforestation, forest protection, and other conditions to implement the project.
