Binh Dinh province’s construction industry has recently achieved a lot of important results and managed to build a system of well-connected modern infrastructure. Accordingly, Binh Dinh’s urban has developed fast, in harmony with environmental factors and sustainable development.

Building Quy Nhon green urban

To build a modern and green Quy Nhon urban, the province People's Committee has directed construction industry and Quy Nhon city to make adjustments on overall planning to build the city towards 2030 and orientation to 2050 with the goal of sustainable urban development, modernity and local identity. The general view is that the planning of Quy Nhon city is in accordance with national planning, the province’s socio-economic master planning, technical infrastructure and environmental sanitation planning in accordance to the trend of Southeast Asia cooperation and global competition.

By 2020, Quy Nhon city will have become one of 12 key regional urban areas of the national urban system, with a population ranging between 800,000 and 1 million, with economic development in the orientation of industry-seaport-tourism-services. By 2030, its economy will have developed in the orientation of service-industry focused on seaport services. By 2050, Quy Nhon will grow into a large city, well-positioned in the national urban system, and play a central role as one of the main developed centres of the South Central region.

Deputy Director of Department of Construction of Binh Dinh, Mr Tran Viet Bao, said that to develop a green urban network, the current planning direction focused on developing Quy Nhon city into an expanding city to the north; many experts agreed to develop Thi Nai lagoon area into the urban “lung” alongside with other green space areas such as Vung Chua mountain, Xuan Van, Ba Hoa, and green carpet along the Ha Thanh River. Mr Bao stressed: "We believe that in terms of natural conditions, the development of Quy Nhon urban space ensures enough urban green space."

Removing bottlenecks in planning of infrastructure

Understanding that infrastructure planning is the "backbone system" of a city, Binh Dinh focused on developing its infrastructure in the direction of synchronization; thereby contributing significantly to socio-economic development, urban development and people’s quality of life improvement.

First of all, in terms of traffic system, Binh Dinh province has planned and organized the transport system in the area synchronously. Recently, it invested two routes, including the coastal route 639 and the west route. On urban traffic, Quy Nhon has implemented completely the construction of routes such as bridge road Quy Nhon - Nhon Hoi, Xuan Dieu, and extended Nguyen Tat Thanh road. On urban infrastructure systems, Quy Nhon City has Environmental Sanitation Project funded by the World Bank with a total investment of about US$80 million.

To continue to improve infrastructure planning in the area, according to Deputy Director Tran Viet Bao, Binh Dinh needs to focus on solving problems. Mr Bao said that the process of urban development must be linked to sustainable development, in which, Quy Nhon has to solve the flood problem for downstream of the Ha Thanh River; CTR treatment in the whole province will also need to be paid more attention.

Besides, Binh Dinh also should focus on removing difficulties, especially in resources. Currently, local human resources are limited, while the demand of required capital for infrastructure development is very high, so Binh Dinh needs the support of the Center and other sources of funding, as well as strengthening the socialization of investment to develop more powerful local resources.
