Afforestation preparations in Tuy Phuoc district’s Phuoc Thanh commune |
The World Band-funded forestry sector development (WB3) project has been carried out in Binh Dinh since 2005. It has not only covered unoccupied land and bald hills with trees but brought many benefits to local farmers.
After 7 years of implementing the project, more than 11,801 hectares of land was covered with trees in Quy Nhon city, An Nhon town, and districts of Phu My, Phu Cat, Tay Son, Van Canh, and Tuy Phuoc.
6,779 households joining the project mainly grew keo lai (hybrid acacia) and bach dan (eucalytus). Most of the participants were technically supported, helping 90 percent of trees to grow well. They were also licensed for land use right, encouraging them to continue joining the project.
The project management unit advised them to buy seeds through competitive offering and careful check to ensure the quality of seeds.
The unit proposed the afforestation plan in 2012. A total of 35.2 billion VND is to poured into growing trees this year in Quy Nhon city and districts of An Nhon, Tuy Phuoc, Tay Son, Phu My, Van Canh, Phu Cat, and Hoai An. Under the program, more 7,509 hectares of land in 7 areas in Binh Dinh, among which 2,432 hectares are expected to be offered the land use right certificate, will be covered with trees by 2015.
To meet the set target, the WB3 project management unit will also carry out some measures, such as propagation, the granting of land use right certificate, and forest promotion activities. The project’s official will closely keep contact with growers to instruct them to take care of trees.
The unit has implemented many measures in participating localities since early this year, aiming to promote the WB3 project. The disbursement of preferential loan for households was promptly carried out, contributing to the effectiveness of the project.
