Binh Dinh promotes the role of seaports
7:33', 10/5/ 2012 (GMT+7)

Quy Nhon seaport is one of Binh Dinh’s advantages

Binh Dinh is upgrading existing seaports and building new ones from now to 2020 in a bid to become one of the key economic centers in the central region.

In the 2011-2020 period, Binh Dinh will expand the capacity of seaports to receive 50,000-ton ships and handle 10 million tons of cargo by 2015.

The province will bring into play the port complex of Quy Nhon, including Quy Nhon and Thi Nai ports. Mr. Le Minh Tien, Deputy General Director of Quy Nhon Port One-Member Company Ltd., said hundreds of billions of dong have been poured into upgrading and building quays and piers, and purchasing cranes.

The port’s loading capacity is around 21,000-25,000 tons of cargo a day. The port, which handled over 1.8 million tons of cargo in the first 4 months of this year, is expected to serve over 6.5 million tons of cargo in the whole year.

Secretary of the Binh Dinh Party Committee Nguyen Van Thien said that in the coming years, the province will call on investment in the planning of such new seaports as Nhon Hoi, Dong Đa and Tan Cang to double its seaports’ capacity of handling cargo.

In the 2011-2015 period, the province is to invest VND 90 billion to upgrade passages so that the port can receive 50,000-ton ships. From 2015 to 2020, it will call for investment in building the 165-ha deepwater port of Nhon Hoi, which can receive 30,000-ton ships, and the 1119-ha port at the economic zone of Nhon Hoi.

Binh Dinh is reviewing the planning of Tam Quan Port in Hoai Nhon District and De Gi Port in Phu Cat District to receive ships with tonnage of up to 20,000 tons.
