Vo Thi Hanh, director of Nguyen Hanh private company, won the first prize at the 2010-2011 national technological creativity contest for her study on improving the quality of acacia hybrids through cutting culture. Her study is also one of 4 initiatives awarded by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for outstanding woman inventors.
Her study is highly valued as it is very feasible, less time-consuming and quite cheap. Acacia hybrids grown via cutting culture are able to develop as well as those created by tissue culture.
In 2010, approximately 33.6 million acacia hybrids were grown in Binh Dinh. An estimated total of 2 billion VND was saved thanks to cutting culture application.
If the study is applied to multiply acacia hybrids for afforestation, tree growers will have a great benefit, contributing to improve the environment and farmers’ income.
Nguyen Hanh company is a big tree supplier in Binh Dinh as well as neighbouring provinces. It provided 10 million acacia hybrids and eucalyptuses last year. It is expected to produce 11 million trees this year.
Hanh’s initiative won the third prize at the 7th Binh Dinh technological creativity contest. Among thousands of studies joining the contest of national magnitude, Binh Dinh won 3 prizes, including the first prize for Hanh’s study. This is an encouragement for local scientists and creativity movement in Binh Dinh.
