Fishermen Le Van Hung living in Hoai Nhon district’s Tam Quan Bac commune invested over 2 billion VND to build a new boat with the capacity of 420 CV.
“The marine resources have become exhausted at near-coastal waters,” he said. “If there is no big vessels for further fishing, we will incur losses.” Moreover, exploring marine resources with big vessels helps us feel secure during the bad weather, he added.
More and more local fishermen have poured much more money into building big fishing boats. According to Hoai Nhon Aquaculture JSC’s director Tran Manh Tuong, his company provided more than 120 new fishing boats, which have the capacity of at least 200 CV, for fishermen in Binh Dinh and neighboring provinces last year. The company has signed the contracts to build more 150 boats since early this year.
Deputy head of Binh Dinh marine resources exploitation and protection division Tran Van Vinh said that the province now sees nearly 300 newly-built fishing vessels, adding to the total of 7,791 boats, of which there are 2,408 offshore fishing boats having the capacity of over 90 CV.
According to fishermen Le Tien Tho, the owner of 250 CV-fishing boat, fishermen are able to go fishing for many days thanks to modernized vessels while they don’t have to spend too much money.
Tho has gone fishing at waters near Spratly Islands for 6 times since early this year and he also earned 200-300 million VND after each trip.
